FAQ
What does the word “Reiki” mean?
Reiki is a Japanese word formed from the separate words rei and ki. While these words have various meanings, in the context of healing, rei is understood as the universal spirit, higher self or God-consciousness. Ki is the life force energy that flows through all living things. Therefore, reiki refers to spiritual energy, and a system/practice of personal and spiritual development.
What happens during a Reiki session?
A reiki session involves the gentle placement of hands in various positions on, or just above the client’s body while fully clothed. Through this laying on of hands, the reiki practitioner sets the intention that the client receive whatever they may need for the healing of their body, mind, or spirit. This facilitates the rebalancing of the client’s energy system, as well as strengthening the body’s ability to heal and self-regulate.
What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki is known to reduce stress for it has a positive effect on the autonomic nervous system which regulates the body’s immune system. This, of course, fosters well-being and the prevention of disease. It also improves sleep patterns, reduces pain, anxiety and promotes overall healing.
What happens before and after the session is completed?
Prior to the session, the practitioner will discuss the client’s areas of concern and desired outcomes. After the session is completed, both practitioner and client will share experiences that took place. (*Note: This is with the consent of the client. as privacy and interpretation of the healing experience is met with great discretion.)
Can Reiki be used to replace alternate healing modalities?
Reiki is a powerful compliment to other methods of healing. Nutrition, exercise, massage, physical therapy, as well as traditional medicine all have their place in the integration of one’s overall wellness.
How does Yoga, and Reiki complement each other?
The practice of yoga includes multiple areas. The one most people are familiar with are the asanas-physical poses during a yoga class. This is more than exercise. You are moving while using your breath-prana to remain focused, and in the “present moment.” This creates stillness of the mind, bringing divine energy into all areas of the body. The asanas target specific areas/energy systems in the body to promote balance, wellness, alignment, and healing. Reiki is similar and complimentary for it uses the same energy in a very targeted and specific manner. When combined, both reiki and yoga can create an immensely powerful and positive outcome for overall well-being.
